Here's our concept for the Anti-Show: if it passes muster here, we'll do a few local gigs with the "template" and see how it goes.

There are thousands of bands and musical ensembles in the world playing in thousands of clubs, concert halls and stadia. We've been to see a few of these in our time and watching people gyrate around the stage creating all manner of visual augmentations to their music is all good fun. We in cloudshadow have enjoyed "shows" in the past, but they are "shows." Our experience of music over the years has been more introspective. The thing that made us "musicians" years ago wasn't our wild charmisma or the desire to be seen; it was instead those times in high school spent sitting in the dark alone in our rooms listening to the stereo on headphones. Removed from the visual clutter of our everyday lives, we could more deeply connect with the sounds. It was this intimate experience of the sounds that made us pick up instruments to try to re-create that meditative experience.

The Anti-Show is our attempt to bring that quieter, calmer experience of music to an over-stimulated, fatigued audience. This lightly-amplified musical performance happens in vacant properties around our southwest Virginia home. The halls are kept dark. The band plays behind a dark screen and provides only music - no "between song" chatter, no dance, no visual clutter. Bring a comfortable chair. Clap at the end of tunes if it makes you feel comfortable - or not. Make a contribution at the door to help defray the costs associated with the show - or not. We'll let you know here and via flyers and emails when we set up an anti-show. Show up. Listen, Relax.
